Legal Malpractice
Lawyers are busy. Sometimes we are busier than others. The efficient lawyer focuses on matters that that require the attention of a lawyer and delegates administrative work to non-lawyers in the office. Some client questions are administrative and do not need the lawyer to answer. Has the deposition been rescheduled? Have you received the settlement check? Has the case been set for trial? If you have an administrative question ask the lawyer’s secretary and frequently you will get the information you need.
Obviously, there are questions that require a response from your lawyer. Lawyers have an ethical duty to keep clients informed. If your lawyer will not communicate with you be suspicious. Recently the client of a Charleston attorney became suspicious because the lawyer would not keep her informed. Suspicion caused her to investigate and determine that the lawyer had forged a judge’s signature to a bogus settlement agreement.
